The Practitioner Edit: JoAnne Valentine
Taara PedersenWhere advanced aesthetics, holistic wellness and Qi beauty meet in New York
In a city known for doing everything at pace, JoAnne Valentine offers something different: highly considered skin treatments that bring advanced aesthetics and whole-person wellness into the same conversation.
A New York esthetician and holistic nutrition expert, JoAnne has built her practice around advanced, curated facials; treatments shaped not only by what she sees in the skin, but by the individual sitting in front of her.
Based on Long Island, JoAnne was the first esthetician and wellness practitioner to introduce Qi beauty to Long Island and has worked with the methodology for several years as an Advanced Qi beauty Practitioner.
Today, that experience extends into Manhattan at Tierra Santa Healing House at Faena New York, where Qi beauty forms part of a wellness experience designed to move beyond the conventional facial.
“What I love about Qi beauty is the ability to look at the individual, not simply the skin concern, and create something specifically for them in that moment.”

“For me, the most elevated facial is one that delivers visible results while giving the guest permission to completely slow down.”

A conversation with JoAnne
Qi beauty: You were an early adopter of Qi beauty in New York. What initially drew you to the methodology?
JoAnne: I’ve been an Advanced Qi beauty Practitioner for several years and was the first esthetician and wellness practitioner to bring it to Long Island. My clients loved it.
Qi beauty stood out to me for several key reasons. The customisable mapping uses acupuncture philosophies to target specific needs, hormonal shifts and even the seasons. That ability to personalise the treatment made it very different.
QB: Personalisation is central to the way you approach skin. What does Qi beauty allow you to do differently within a facial?
JM: The customisable Face Mapping allows me to respond to the individual and what their skin needs at that particular time.
It isn't simply one treatment performed in the same way each visit. The mapping can be adapted around specific skin needs, hormonal changes and seasonal shifts, which fits beautifully with the way I like to work.
“The customisable mapping allows us to target specific needs, hormonal shifts and even the seasons.”
QB: Your work brings together advanced aesthetics and a broader approach to wellness. Why is that important to you?
JM: For me, a facial can be about much more than the skin alone.
The Qi beauty experience creates this deeply relaxed state for my clients. There is a sense of slowing down and releasing stress while we're also working towards visible skin results.
That combination of skin, energy and relaxation is an important part of why my clients have responded to it so well.

Qi beauty: When Faena began creating its Healing House team, what made Qi beauty the treatment you wanted to bring with you?
JM: When Faena was scouting for the best of the best for its Healing House team, they wanted something above the ordinary.
They found that combination with me and Qi beauty and could see how the treatment would benefit guests at Tierra Santa Healing House.
For me, it was a natural fit. Qi beauty isn't an ordinary facial experience, and neither is Faena.
Qi beauty: What do you think makes the two philosophies work so naturally together?
Joanne: Both Qi beauty and Faena rise above the ordinary.
There is this combination of luxury, wellness and sustainable harmony. The intention is to elevate the facial experience while still delivering better results.
That alignment is what makes Qi beauty feel so at home within the Faena wellness journey.
Qi beauty: What do you want a guest to experience beyond the visible result they see in the mirror?
Joanne: Deep relaxation.
Of course we're there to work with the skin and achieve results, but there is also something that happens when a guest is given permission to slow down.
Qi beauty creates an experience where we can work with the skin while supporting that sense of calm and reducing stress. I think that's incredibly valuable within a wellness environment.
Qi beauty: After several years of working with Qi beauty, what continues to keep it relevant within your treatment room?
Joanne: The ability to customise.
Skin isn't static. Our needs change with hormones, seasons, stress and what is happening in our lives. Being able to adapt the mapping and treatment around the person in front of me means the ritual can continue to evolve with them.
That is one of the things I've always loved about Qi beauty.
Above the ordinary
JoAnne's approach speaks to an evolution taking place within luxury aesthetics: results and wellbeing no longer need to exist as separate experiences.
The modern facial can be technically considered and highly personalised while also giving the guest something increasingly rare: a period of stillness.
For JoAnne, Qi beauty provides the framework to bring those worlds together. Face Maps allow the ritual to shift according to the individual, while touch, time and the treatment environment transform those technical decisions into an experience.
At Tierra Santa Healing House, that philosophy finds a natural home.
Advanced aesthetics. Personalised ritual. A different way of experiencing skin wellness.
