Why you have a skin break-out after using your mobile phone
The disruption to healthy skin flora is proving to be one of the leading causes of acne, skin breakouts, inflamed skin conditions, redness, and irritation. Here we chat to Qi beauty founder, Kathy Pedersen, about the threats to healthy skin flora, how to restore good bacteria, and why we break out after extended mobile phone use.
Replacing skin flora is the newest craze - applying yoghurt to ones face will soon be the norm as we realise that the healthy bacteria on our skin is just as important for balancing our complexion as healthy gut flora is for stabilising our mood.
But if applying Yoghurt is treating the Symptom, how do we treat the cause? Kathy Pedersen explains.
KP: "while Qi beauty maintains that most skin conditions attributed to disruption of the Stratum Corneum and absence of healthy flora, which in turn is a conversation about gut health. In TCM terms, balance of stomach, colon and etc is also a major player in the expression of healthy skin and resident skin microbes. We are also aware that the impact of external factors - specifically cell phone use disrupts the human skin microbiota.
Results from current studies into the effects of RF-EMF (radio frequency electromagnetic field) on human-microbiota and relationship to health, have led scientists to hypothesise that cell phone level RF-EMF disrupts human skin microbiota, and lays the groundwork for more comprehensive studies into the RF-EMF human-microbiota relationship.
Creating a healthy environment for skin flora to thrive is the foundation of improving the microbiota of the skin. Friendly bacteria needs a friendly environment to thrive - this is a pH balanced environment, a healthy physical barrier (the stratum corneum), and healthy function of gene-encoded host defence molecules ( activators of the cellular and adaptive immune responses)."
