Industry Insight_ How do we interpret skin health as a diagnosis for aesthetics treatments
Healthy skin biology is a co-dependent of overall health across the human lifespan. The negative impact of exogenous environmental factors on the human epigenome is reflected as a toxic load, externally visible via skin texture, colour, tone and secretions. The inconvenient truth about all this for our clients is the inevitable atonement that comes with honest self appraisal and critiquing of their past and present lifestyle and how that is manifesting as they age.
Clients are now asking questions such as what does it mean when the bags under my eyes come and go, what does it mean when the palms of my hands are so wrinkled, what will menopause do to my skin, etc . There are obvious tells, immediate and simply explained and then there are constellation cues;, signs that when viewed together point to internal factors.
Skin is able to communicate via visual and sensory expression when something is not quite right, often signalling that the body has a malfunctioning system. Digestive, circulatory, nervous, lymphatic or reproductive systems can manifest as weakened capillaries, hyper pigmentation, acne, eczema, oedema, premature ageing, rosacea and so on.
So what are the tells, and how do we raise the potential for skin to stay strong and resilient so that it lasts our lifespan?
