How to know if your Qi is out of balance
How does your Qi govern your entire body? What is qi? and how does it circulate?
Qi goes by many names, commonly known as chi, prana, spirit or vital energy, it is the energy that gives us our life force, our vitality and connects us to our self, or heart. It travels the body via meridians, traveling like electricity to circulate and connect our organs and spirit.
It is not visible energy, but it is detected in our state of being, when we feel settled, at peace with ourselves and the world around us, this is the state we like to feel. When it is unsettled, or the energy is blocked, we can feel unsettled, and not quite like ourselves.
To encourage a healthy flow of this energy we meditate, practice yoga or physical activities that centre and calm us so we are attuned to our body and sense of self. The energy traveling the meridians distributes revitalising energy to the body.
Your qi can be disrupted by trauma – physical, emotional, mental or spiritual, that created a kink or blockage on the flow of qi. Our state of optimal being is reliant on the flow of qi being consistent and uninterrupted. While it can be disturbed, it can also be easily corrected.
This is why acupuncture was developed over 3000 years ago, to restore the balance of Qi and flow of vital energy around the body via the meridians.
There are acupuncture points along meridians traveling around the entire body, these acupuncture points relate to a specific organ that governs us. Disruption in energy flow to an organ can result in a disruption of our Qi in a physical, mental or metaphysical manifestation.
Based on Chinese Acupuncture there are 12 main primary acupuncture meridians. Every meridian is connected to create a network below the skin, like running electricity.
The 12 main acupuncture meridians are associated to a specific organ, time of day when the particular energy is strongest and emotion.
Lung, 3am-5am, Grief
large intestine, 5am- 7am, guilt
Stomach, 7am- 9am, greed
Spleen, 9am – 11am, anxiety
Heart, 11am – 1pm, joy
Small Intestine, 1pm – 3pm, Insecurity
Bladder, 3pm – 5pm, restlessness
Kidney, 5pm – 7pm, indecision
Circular sex/ Pericardium, 7pm – 9pm, regret
Triple heater/Thyroid9pm – 11pm, hopelessness
Gall Bladder 11pm – 1am, rage
Liver, 1am – 3am, anger
An excess of emotion, or sluggish function of an organ can indicate an imbalance of qi. The best way to address qi and balance energy flow is to consult an acupuncturist to encourage a consistent flow of energy and unblock and imbalances.
